Does anyone remember anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan? She’s the one who camped out at President Bush’s Crawford, Texas home urging all troops be returned from Iraq, after her son was killed in the line of duty. Well she’s back in the news after interrupting a press conference by House Democrats.

I saw the film clip; it was hilarious. Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., cut the press conference short and fled from the podium as the protesters chanted “descalate, investigate, troops home now”. Then Sheehan stepped up to the mikes and made her own speech, reminding the democrats that “her people” put them in office and now they need to listen to the people and bring our troops home.

The irony is that she’s partially correct. The democrats went after the “anti-war voters” to help them get elected. The press conference was to announce the democrats “new” highest priority to introduce a government ”integrity” bill. Of course we all know that integrity has been a problem in the government for both parties. Why do they feel this is such a high priority when so many other important issues are looming in the forefront.

The Democrats appear on track to break their promise of bipartisan legislating.  They were not elected because people want tax increases and huge increases in social welfare programs.  The people want to see their tax money being spent wisely.  We, the people, are fed up with the left/right bickering and simply want some results. Maybe even some real compromise in the name of progress.

Some key Senate Democrats say they could consider supporting a short-term increase in US troop levels in Iraq, at least conditional support, if it is part of a plan to get out of Iraq. Of course we all know we’ll never be “completely” out. We still have troops all over the world in peace keeping missions. If we were really smart, we would increase troops in Afghanistan and Pakistan before Osama and his Taliban buddies get much stronger.

I do not agree with Bush that Iraq is the center of the “war on terrorism”. And I believe we will see more significant attacks on the US in the next year or two. Al-Qaeda and the Taliban are in the Afghan/Pakistan border mountains, and the Pakistani military government, which has nuclear bombs, refuses to route the bad guys out. Trouble is a brew’n!.
